Financial Crisis who's really to blame?

October 28th 2008 09:10
Well let us take a look at what went on, who did what. Democrat Barney Frank said five years earlier that Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac were not in crisis. Democrat Maxine Waters said under the outstanding leadership of Frank Raines everything under the 1992 act has worked just fine.

Democrat Gregory Meeks there has been nothing that is fundamentally wrong with Fannie Mae. And Barney Frank also said that we see equities that are fundamentally sound financially, and that they would withstand financial disaster scenarios, and even if there was a problem the Federal Government doesn't bail them out.

Three months after taking office the Bush Administration raised concerns, and warned of problems with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in April 2001. Senators Elizabeth Doyle, John Sununu, and Chuck Hagel introduced a strong reform bill, and was backed by Republicans in 2005.

All the democrats on the Senate Banking Committee were solidly against it, while John McCain and 19 other Republicans Senators signed a letter demanding oversight of Fannie and Freddie. That's why we are in this financial crisis, because democrats were blind and stupid.

Now you know who is to blame, and it's not John McCain and the Republicans. I think the democrats owe an apology to Republicans, and the American people.

I fear the crisis will worsen in view of their "financial management skills", America is in a big pickle, there is a lot of work to be done, but too many seem to be in denial, a change of Government is not going to be the magic 'fix' voters are expecting.

But the 'status quo' have a lot to answer for too.

What has happened to the great American dream? it's turned into a nightmare.

That's a shame, Lester.

You're right katyzzz the American dream right now is a nightmare, and blaming republicans is the wrong answer. But what's even worse is that the ones that didn't have the foresight, and common decency to even care are going to stay in office to further do harm.

My country is in shambles because of a few greedy politicians, and their cronies, like Freddie, Fannie, and ACORN. Instead of making these companies liable, they were rewarded.

Very well said, Lester. They owe us an apology and several million dollars, too! But as usual with Democrats, they'll pass the buck, lie some more, and find ways to blame everyone except those actually responsible. Imagine if there had been even one Republican for them to blame, he'd be facing charges and the wrath of the whole country by this time. Instead, the Democrats are blindly tossing blame around, trying to get out of their own guilt. And somehow, nobody seems to notice...

Actually, we the peoples are to blame for keeping the wankers in office, that's what our under exercised right to vote is all about; it was our undisciplined spending habits (greed) that was our undoing.

Almost correct, Nevar. It was the greedy politicians who forced the bankers to give loans. The same greedy politicians that just gave themselves a nice little present of our money!

And whom will shortly vote themselves into new pay grades while taxing the rest of us.

Yep. They lie themselves into re-election and give themselves a big, fat pay raise that the rest of us have to cover. We really need term limits for Congress! People like Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and the whole crooked gang need to be booted out before they get so ingrained that their re-elections are never in question.

Exactly why I maintain that we the peoples share in the blame, term limits should have been in play years n years ago.

Term limits are a great Idea now if we can just get it passed by these I want to be a career politician leaches that have been sucking the life out of our country.

S.L. and Nevar if we make enough noise maybe just maybe someone will listen.

I've been yelling my head off about term limits for years, Lester. Maybe McCain and Palin will be interested. Obama will certainly not. His cronies like their permanent positions of power and they all support him.

"t was the greedy politicians who forced the bankers to give loans."

How, exactly?

Haven't you been paying attention, Anonymous? ACORN is a criminal operative arm of the Democrat party. Starting with Jimmy Carter and building steam during the Clinton years, ACORN put pressure on lenders to give loans to people who couldn't repay them. Sub-prime was more a political invention than a financial one, since bankers knew the loans would default. The politicians scooped in a fortune from Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac (among others) before the whole thing fell apart. Those who profitted were almost exclusively Democrats.
